Frezyderm Hydrating & Repairing Facial Cream

It's been a long time since I last made a blog post about a beauty product, but this one deserves a mention.

A couple of weeks ago I won a competition, and the prize consisted of a bundle of skincare. I'll be honest, I'd never heard of the skincare brand before and was quite shocked when I realised how much these products were retailing at on their website.

A bit of background on my skincare routine (or lack of..) - It's basic, like really basic. I don't have lotions and potions that I apply every morning and evening, and to be honest, I've only recently in the past year or so been using moisturising cream. Yes, I know, its really bad. But I've just not found a moisturiser that's right for my skin. I'd either break out, or apply it under my foundation and my make-up just wouldn't 'sit' well on top of it. I gave it up as a bad job and around 6 months ago, finally settled on one particular day moisturiser that suited me well, but I used it at night instead. I've always received compliments on how 'youthful' and 'glowing' my skin looks, so I was always happy with how I did things.

After receiving my prize bundle, I gave the moisturiser a whirl. Being sceptical because of my relationship with moisturisers, I wasn't all that hopeful, however there are a few key things I would like from a moituriser, the first one being how well it absorbs into the skin. I hate how after applying moisturiser, half an hour later and the face still feels tacky, however I was amazed at how quickly my skin drank this up. Not only that, but how velvety soft my skin felt within minutes after applying. I couldn't stop touching it! It had the same effect that a favourite primer of mine has, so it definitely got a huge tick in this area!

An hour after applying, I was getting ready to go out for a meal, and begun applying my foundation. After nearing the end of applying my make-up, I noticed my skin looked different, like I had applied a brand new foundation. I looked closer in the mirror and was baffled as to why my make-up looked flawless - I had only used the same products that I always do. The appearance reminded me of an old favourite foundation of mine, Estee Lauder, that I hadn't used in years! Then I realised... it was the Frezyderm Moisturiser I had used earlier! I was amazed! It is worth noting that this moisturiser is targeted for ages 30+, so is designed to target areas where the skin (sadly) starts its ageing process.

This product claims to hydrate and restructure skin and has collagen boosting and elasticity improving properties. It's obviously early days in order to comment on this but I have definitely noticed a change in the appearance of my skin under make-up and that alone I am happy with.

The packaging is rather unique too. The bottle comes in a perspex 'capsule' almost, which can either be kept in this or taken apart. This gives the product a more luxurious feel. I occasionally find the pump applicator a little difficult to use, but it definitely doesn't effect my opinion of the product overall.

I've been using this a few days and haven'd had any break outs. Is it going to be a repurchase at some point? I think so!

KiteNest 100% Natural Products

A few months ago I was kindly contacted by the guys at Kitenest - A new small company that have recently set up in Lincoln, somewhere that is very close to my heart (having spent 5 yrs at university there!).

KiteNest produces products that are 100% natural, completely handmade and never tested on animals.

They kindly sent me 3 of their lip balms to try, as well as their Himalayan salt scrub.

Being presented in a cute compact tin with a range of flavours (Spearmint, Orange and Clove & Lime), the initial consistency of these lip balms took a bit of getting used to - upon first application on the lips they had an almost 'bitty' texture to them, but once massaged into the lips, this instantly disappears, and what is left is a balm that absorbs lovely into the skin, leaving your lips with a very subtle gloss finish, which is something I loved. My lips felt super soft and I noticed the staying power on these to be impressive.

The Himalayan scrub is definitely a good one for those fake tanners out there! This is definitely not a gentle scrub, with its large and abrasive particles really being able to work into the skin and remove all the dead skin cells, grime and that pesky old tan that refuses to budge. I have used it several times now and upon drying my skin feels silky soft. I slap a load of moisturiser on afterwards to really give my skin some TLC. Application wise, it is a little bit messy as the scrub is loose due to it not being combined with any other products which would usually create that binding effect, so definitely one to use in the shower as opposed to the bath.
It would be ideal to use once a week as a full body scrub, however I would not advise to use on more delicate areas such as the face as I can imagine it to be a little too harsh. This giant tub (measuring at 440ml) would definitely last a few months.

How much does my face cost?

So I've seen this tag doing the rounds and if I'm honest, I was lacking inspiration so thought I'd give it a go because its not often I touch on beauty anymore.

My love for beauty has definitely decreased over the past year and my interests have heightened in other areas such as home decor and lifestyle. I never go on big beauty spending sprees anymore and my purchases are more on a 'need' basis rather than a 'I would like...!'. I only ever buy make up now if my previous item is coming to an end,  so I'm definitely more savvy with my money!

Here are my items that I wear on a typical day.  Its pretty basic and definitely on the more affordable side than others!

Rimmel 25hr lasting wear foundation (£7.99) - I've been using this for so long. Its the perfect coverage for me, its long lasting and its affordable - Ive tried more higher end brands since I first begun using this but I always go back to this because it ticka pretty much every box for me.

Collection Concealer (£4.19) - I used to use this purely for blemishes but my skin has finally lost its teenage look (thank god, it took its time!). Instead I've been using this as an under eye concealer, I find that it really brightens my eyes and always makes my face look 'complete'. Ive been using this for years, the consistency and creaminess is perfect and is very affordable.

The Balm 'How 'bout them Apples' (£20 for full palette) I received this from a beauty subscription box but it took me a while before I began using it because I tend to chop and change between bronzer and blusher for my cheeks, depending on my mood however this is definitely my go-to bluzher now! I love the creaminess of this, not to mention the cute kitsch packaging!

Rimmel Wonderfull mascara (£7.99). I don't really have a favourite when it comes to mascaras, although I always tend to lean towards rimmel because I've neved been let down with their new releases. Im currently using this 'Wonderfull' mascara which gives both length and volume.

Pixi Shea Butter Lip Balm (£6). I've been obsessed with this tinted shea butter lip balm. I used it for a while when I first got it but then forgot about it (it was probably lying at the bottom of one of my many handbags!). I rediscovered it about 2 months ago and now it goes everywhere with me. I suffer with sore lips and this definitely eases them whilst adding a tint of colour at the same time.

Collection Lasting Perfection Powder (£3.99) - this isn't my most favourite powder (im still yet to find it!) but its what im currently using. I use this to take away any shine that sometimes appears throughout the day.

Kohl Eyeliner - I'm gutted because the writing on this has rubbed off so I have no idea which brand this is from.  I know i received it from a beauty subscription box but I've tried to track it down with no such luck so I'm gonna estimate this at £8.

February's Birchbox 'Birchbox Loves...'

This months Birchbox is based around the theme of love (it is February after all..). A few of the Birchbox team have selected a few of their favourites, along with a handy card that states the smaller things in life what people love, that we often take for granted. For me it would be Lush bubble baths, early nights, a good book and candles..

Lets take a closer look...

 

Wild About Beauty Rose Water Illuminating Serum - RRP £22

This claims to be a "super luxurious solution to boost your skin’s radiance in a flash. The Rose Water Illuminating Serum is packed with light-reflecting particles, Organic Rose Water and Caigua Extract to help regenerate and revitalise your complexion instantly. It also contains pearls (fancy!) to add a subtle shimmer and boost luminosity". I've tried this a few times now and I'm still not sure what I think of it. It certainly doesn't blow me away, I'm not overly fond of the consistency if I'm honest, however I don't usually use illuminating skin products, simply because I always wear foundation, so I think it'd be pretty pointless to wear!

 

T London Darjeeling Bath & Shower Wash - RRP £18 (for 300ml)

I'm still yet to use this shower wash (I like to keep these size samples for breaks away instead) however after smelling it, I found the scent very mediocre and standard, exactly like you would expect to find a middle-of-the-range shower gel to smell - fresh with a kick of citrus. Unfortunately I'm no lover of this scent so this hasn't blown me away.

 

TheBalm Cosmetics Stainiac - RRP £10

This two-in-one lip and cheek stain gives us "a natural, understated flush and helps us get out the door faster! The gel formula looks dark in the tube but delivers a sheer tint. The tinted gel leaves a lasting stain on lips and cheeks. Since it’s water-based, it has a longer setting time than most quick-dry stains, which means it won’t leave any unsightly streaks behind as long as you take care to blend well. Use a single coat for a subtle look or layer it on for a more visible (yet still discreet) hue." I've been trying this on and off for a few days now and I'm unfortunately not blown away. The consistency when applied to the lips just feels... weird. I feel like I'm applying water. It provides a very subtle tint (and very subtle at that), however within an hour or so I found that my lips were just left with an outline (almost as if I've applied lip liner but not filled my actual lip in). Not good. I can't say I've tried it on the cheeks as I'm more of a bronzer person than I am blusher. I do already have one of these in my collection from another brand, and I have the same thoughts on that product too. Just not my cup of tea!

 

 

 Cynthia Rowley Beauty Eyeliner (Silver) - RRP £11

Although not usually my chosen colour of eyeliner, this was one of my favourite products from the whole box. Its creamy consistency helps to glide onto the skin and releases a vibrant metallic silver tone. Just out of curiousity I tried it on the waterline and although it took some getting used to, it did actually open my eyes up a little. I think I will stick to wearing it on my upper lash line though, and blend it in for a smokey eye. I love the packaging of this too!

 

Liz Earle Botanical Shine Shampoo - RRP £10 (for 200ml)

I'm always pleased to see a well-known brand in the box, and Liz Earle is no exception. I didn't know that L.E did shampoo's either! I'm yet to try this shampoo (again, saving it for a weekend away!) however if it lives up to its name, I do expect good things!

 

 

The Chia Co. Oats + Chia - RRP £$.95 (5 pack)

"Whether you’ve only got 10 minutes to spare at home, or you’re breakfasting al desko, this creamy blend of wholegrain oats, sun-ripened chia, fruit and virgin coconut oil can be prepared in a minute or two so there’s no excuse not to get munching! Plus, it delivers a fibre boost and essential fatty acids to fuel both your muscles and your brain. Perfect!" - Here's a little story - I received the exact same sample in my monthly Degustabox a few months ago. Upon attempting to make this, I accidentally put too much water in, and it was unable to soak in, so I had to throw the whole thing away.. second time lucky! (and no, I haven't tried them yet to comment!)

 

I wasn't blown away by this months Birchbox, so I'm hoping next months is going to be a little more exciting!

January's Birchbox - 'Hit Refresh'

With it being a new year, this month's birchbox was based on health, fitness and wellbeing.

Kick starting your body and mind and getting it back to a healthy state after a few weeks of indulging!

HealGel (RRP £39.50). This lotion is packed with anti-inflammatory ingredients to calm and regenerate skin. Its the type of gel I'd probably take on holiday with me... I've got a lot of moisturisers piling up that claim to do a similar thing, so this product didn't excite me too much.

Caudalie VinoPerfect Radiance Serum (RRP £45) - I've tried one (possibly 2) Caudalie products before and I've loved them - especially the SOS serum (in fact I'm debating purchasing that if I can justify spending that amount of money on skincare!). I've already tried this a few times but it unfortunately hasn't blown me away yet.

Philip Kingsley Body Building Condition (RRP £19) - I've yet to try this, but I'm probably going to save it for a night away somewhere as my hair annoyingly needs washing almost every day now. This conditioner claims to transform lifeless locks and seal flyaways.

Activbod Shower Concentrate - I knew from the packaging that this was going to be a cheapie, it RRPs at a mere £5 so I wasn't overwhelmed with this item, although I guess its not always about the price! But from a subscription box I expect a little more than a £5 product. This shower gel has sea minerals and green tea mixed with almond oil, which sounds.. different!

Stila Lip Glaze (RRP £15). Honestly? I'm not a fan of lip glosses and haven't been for a few years. I find them sticky, stringy and just uncomfortable on the lips. Although I love the sheen this gives to the lips, it still ticks all the boxes I have just mentioned. I've been using this most days, just to get rid I think...

Pilates Band (RRP £7.99) - I need to look up some tutorials on how to use this because this confuses me no end!

Embrace Matcha green tea (RRP - £24.99) - I'm not green tea drinker, or herbal or flavoured tea drinker for that matter, however I've finally found a few work colleagues who appreciate these kind of tea's, so I'll be popping this in their stash, along with a load of others I've already given them!

All in all, this box didn't blow me away. I think now I've been receiving beauty boxes for almost 4 years I feel the novelty has kinda worn off a little. However I think I would miss it if I unsubscribed because I do look forward to knowing I've got my birchbox coming, even though I'm always a little deflated upon opening... I may have a go at switching my subscription around to something else that I still enjoy.. like a crafts subscription! If anyone knows of any, please do tell!

December's Birchbox - 'Put on Your Party Shoes'

I've had this months Birchbox a week or two now, but obviously with festivities getting in the way I haven't managed to review it yet.

This month Birchbox collaborated with accessories designer Sophia Webster, so we received a gorgeous gemstone covered box.. I do love collaboration boxes!

First of all I want to apologise for the lighting.. you don't need me to explain why...
Secondly, for reasons that I'm not even aware of, I seem to be missing close up shots of part of this selection, I don't know how that happened so I apologise!

Benefit Christmas Cracker (High Beam) - (Full prize £19.50)
I've tried High Beam before and remember liking it. I'm currently using a MeMeMe highlighter, so once that has finished I'll move onto this. This little miniature is perfect for travelling!

Elemental Herbology Facial Glow Radiance Peel (Full Prize - £40)
I've had other products from this brand before and remember liking it so I'm rather intrigued by this 'radiance peel'

Electric Hair Hydrate Shampoo (Full prize - £17.50)
This is meant to help repair damage and improve shine. Have yet to try but smells nice and fresh. With the size of this I may keep for a weekend away.

Eyekop Fat Eye Stick in 'Smoke' - £8
This creamy, easy to glide on charcoal crayon is perfect for creating a smokey eye.. I've yet to use it but have swatched it on my hand and it seems pretty easy to use.

Models Own 'Sardonyx' - £5
Before this box was released, Birchbox gaave us the opportunity to pick from a selection of colours that we would prefer to see in our box. I'm almost sure I didn't choose this red because I have a few red glitters now, so was a little disappointed when I saw this in my box. I do love nail polishes however I would have preferred to give another colour a try. This has a velvet top which I struggle to use as I hate the feel of velvet! Haha. I'm also not fond of the matte formulation of this glitter. I always think a glitter should do exactly what glitter is meant to do - sparkle! However this matte format takes the shine away..

Triology Rosehip Oil - (Full size - £16.50).
An oil for when your skin is in need of nourishment. I sometimes prefer an oil to moisture with than a cream... it tends to absorb into the skin easier. I have yet to try this however I'm a little disappointed that this doesn't seem to have a scent to it!

Sophia Webster Coin Purse Lifestyle choice - £25). I have actually taken a liking to this purse.. normally I think lifestyle choices are often too tacky to use, but I'm rather impressed with this one. It feels pretty good quality, I love the design (it's striped black and white on the back too). I was actually in need of a coin purse as well for when I downsize to smaller handbags, so this came at the perfect time!

Bath Time with Lush: Lord of Misrule

After doing my research I'm a little confused with this bathbomb - I'm unsure if it's from their Halloween or Christmas collection.. either way, here are my thoughts!

The description of LoM left me feeling a little curious...

          Lord of Misrule brings mischievous revelry to the tub with a spicy herbal blend of patchouli and black pepper oil. As it slowly froths in the water, hypnotic swirling silver luster is released and the deep green exterior soon gives way to a rich, wine-colored center. Just like at the Feast of Fools, when the wine begins flowing, the revelry really begins! Popping candies fizz and crackle, creating a world of magic and mischief right before your eyes

 Yet again, another misleading bath bomb - this green rather boring looking bomb soon created pretty swirls of green and red wine/pink in my bath water. The smell was divine, a good concoction of both sweet and spicy. Yummy!

Bath Time with Lush: Star Light Star Bright

First of all, Merry Christmas! This post has obviously been scheduled but I wanted to get one out on Christmas day. Who got Lush products for Christmas?!

I've been slacking with these Lush Christmas baths that I promised.. I've since bought another mountain of Lush items as part of my Christmas present from my boyfriend. Some of them contain bubble bars from their festive collection which I may (or may not) add onto this series, but I did want all the festive ones to have been reviewed before the year is out!

Although this bath melt looks so pretty to look at, I was a bit apprehensive about using it because I was covered in silver shimmer/glitter every time I touched it, so I had a feeling it was going to be a very glittery bath!

As with most Lush products, I got a nice surprise when I went to cut this star in half (yes, I'm one of those stingy people that like to get 2 baths out of my products if possible!). The inside was blue which gave a lovely light blue colour to the bath water. I remember thinking this was rather hard to crumble under the running water because of the consistency of the melt. I loved how creamy it was though.

The silver 'glitter'? It didn't stick to me as I was expecting. It laid on top of the water like a layer of frosting (see photo below).

This melt is described as a 'lime and ginger scented bath filled with light lustre and a shea butter fondant'. I can definitely agree with the lime, however because it consisted of shea butter too, the citrus scent was evened out nicely. I loved the creaminess of this once combined with water, giving off a really luxurious feel.

Although I enjoyed this to look at, it didn't make my bath look very exciting, and the blue soon faded into the water to leave just the 'icing' on top.

Christmas Bath Time with Lush | Christmas Pud

This bath bomb I know would have been even more great if I hadn't cut it in half (y'know.. to make it last longer..). I watched a demo of this on Lush's website and thought it was fab how different colours shot out at all different angles. However due to cutting mine, it fell apart, so I didn't quite get the same effect, however it still fizzed away in my bath and created a pretty array of colours, eventually turning my water a delightful colour of pink.. bright pink.

The smell was delish - so sweet and just.. yummy. I remember sitting in the bath and it took me a good 10 minutes before I realised that my water was filled with this gorgeous shimmer glitter effect, although it tended to be 'in' the water, as opposed to just sat on the surface. It was so pretty and I then felt like I was sat in a princess' bath! Luckily the shimmer didn't cling to the skin upon getting out of the bath (I think that would have been a bit too much for me!)

The holly that sat on top of the bath bomb I removed from the water before getting in. Simply because I initially wondered 'what that black thing' was that was lurking on the surface of the bath.. after sieving it out I soon realised it was the holly.. however it had now turned into slimy gunk, but luckily it was only small so could be sieved out. I liked the whole idea of it to look at though before using the bath bomb. You can't have a christmas pud without holly, right?!

Overall, I really liked the effect this gave to the water, the scent was right up my street and if I hadn't cut it in half then I think the display would have been fantastic to watch.

Bath Time with Lush | Father Christmas Bath Bomb

Lushs' 'Father Christmas' bath bomb was a bit of a deceiving one for me (bare in mind I haven't had much experience with Lush products before which will soon become clear!). The red and white Santa face exterior was just a casing, and once I had broken through that, I hit a bright green bath bomb. Phone in one hand, trying to film the fizz, and then trying to break the bath bomb in half with the other hand because I was reluctant to use the whole bomb for one bath, it just wasn't having it, so I reluctantly threw the whole lot in.

The bath water quickly turned fizzed into bright green colour with a small amount of thin white/pink layering to accompany it, however this quickly disappeared, leaving just bright green water. The colour reminded me so much of the green Fairy Liquid bottles.. it was the identical shade. The lack of bubbles didn't make it feel like I was having a luxurious bath - You can tell I'm fairly new to purchasing Lush products because I have since found out the difference between Bath Bombs and Bubble Bars - The key is in the name I guess, but for some reasons I've never clicked! haha.. and unfortunately for me I love my bubbles, but the majority of my purchases are bath bombs.. dear oh dear. Least I have learnt my lesson for next time!

The colour of the water, although fun for some, was almost off-putting for me - I felt a little yucky sat in green water, even though it was clean.. it just felt a little.. wrong? I can imagine young boys enjoying a green bath though!

The scent is very sweet smelling, and according to Lush, releases the popular scent of 'Snow Fairy'. I loved the smell, it was right up my street in terms of scents, but noticed it didn't linger around for long which was unfortunate.

Now I know the difference between bubble bars and bath bombs (doh!), I feel a little harsh giving it a poor score because after all, it did its job, I've just learnt that bath bombs aren't for me. However, the design and scent I thought was really good, therefore I will give it a 3/5.

November's Birchbox - 'Cosy At Home'

I've had my birchbox well over a week now, but instead of showcasing the contents immediately without any testing like I usually do, I thought I'd give a more accurate and in-depth review of each product..

This month's box is all about getting snuggly at home now the nights are darker and winter is slowing setting in (although I think weather wise we're still doing pretty good considering we're almost in December!).

I will admit, I wasn't blown away with this months box, however having a full size OPI nail polish helped to excite me! I do love a good nail polish!

Lord & Berry Mini Bronzer 'Sunny'. - Although this is only a sample size, I know it will last me a while. I don't tend to ever switch up my bronzer, and normally only use the bronzer in my sleek contour kit, however I've been using this every day since I received it and I absolutely love it! The shade seems to be perfect for my skin (and has actually made me realise I've been using a bronzer that has been a little too dark!). It gives a gorgeous natural glow without looking OTT. It has a £19 price tag when purchased full price, which although is a little bit out my budget for a bronzer, if I was ever feeling a little flush with cash I wouldn't hesitate buying this.

Weleda Pomegranate Creamy Body Wash - The fact that this was a creamy body wash as opposed to a shower gel went in my favour. However, although the smell was obvious, it wasn't strong enough for me.. It did feel moisturising on the skin but didn't blow me away.

Dr Jart+ Moist Water Act Mist. - This was another full size product in this months box (thumbs up to Birchbox!) - This is one product I haven't used. It claims to boost skins internal moisture levels - it acts as a facial spritz, which, if I'm honest, I already have 2 similar products in my drawer that I tend to take away to hot countries with me to spray if I'm too hot! Although the size is nice, this product didn't excite me..

OPI Nail Polish in 'Coca-Cola Red' - A full size nail polish in a paintbox red shade - I do love a bright red.. and knowing this is OPI was just the cherry on the top - I have a few red's building up in my collection now - I really do need to get a move on and start using them before they turn gloopy!

Beauty Protect 'Protect & Treat Hair Mask' (x 2) - The size of these pots are misleading - Although only 1 pot does one application for me (I have got rather long hair!), I was expecting to use both pots in one. The pink mask smells delish, but not overpowering. Because I've only used it once I didn't really notice any difference - My hair didn't feel any softer or more manageable which is usually the case when I've first used a new product on my hair.

Drinkwel (Lifestyle choice) - I have yet to try these (haven't drunk yet!) but I am so intrigiued by them! They claim to help you recover after a night out drinking... suggesting to take the tablets before you go to bed after your night out (with water!) and then again with food the next day, and they will refill your body with all the goodness that the alcohol may have taken away, and make you feel more alive. Could this be the new hangover cure?! They have a £39.99 price tag and I'm not a regular drinker in order to justify spending that much, but for people who go clubbing on a regular basis, these may be a lifesaver!

Bath Time with Lush | Candy Mountain Bubble Bar

Candy Mountain is so cute to look at, its pink and white exterior reminded me of a frosty snowy mountain (although don't ask where the pink comes into it!).

After crumbling half of this under a hot running tap, it soon created mountains of glistening bubbles and a gorgeous pink and white shimmery frosting over the water. I think if I had used the whole bar my water would have turned pink, but because I halved it, I think this weakened the magic a little. 

I was impressed with the amount of bubbles it created (again, from just half the bar... I dread to think what it would have been like if I crumbled the whole lot in!). I felt like I was in a super luxurious bath as I sunk chin deep into the water. 

The scent is extremely sweet smelling, hence the 'candy' name, and it lingered not only in the bathroom for hours, but wafted out into the hotel room and clung to it well into the next morning, which is definitely a tick box for me. 

I noticed my skin felt super soft afterwards as well, so it definitely did it some good. 

Definitely one I wouldn't hesitate in picking up again.

Christmas Bath Time with Lush

I don't have a Lush shop locally.. the nearest one is 50 minutes away so I don't often get to venture in the shop to inhale their dreamy scents. And sometimes when I do  have the opportunity to access the shop, my brain tells me its too overpriced and I avoid... however! There's just something about the run up to Christmas that makes me want to treat myself and indulge a little more than usual. Knowing that the festive goodies were out when I took a trip to Liverpool last weekend, I just couldn't resist. It was that bad that I made 2 separate purchases on 2 separate days, because 1 simply wasn't enough. This resulted in me spending almost £40 on bath time treats (and that annoying devil voice always enters my head and says "That's 40 bottles of Radox/Dove if you get it on offer!"). Yes but Lush is so much more... the smells.. the displays of art than some produce in the water..the pretty colours..  the gorgeous smell that lingers throughout the entire upstairs for hours afterwards... how could I not, really? It's only a 'once in a blue moon' kinda thing..

Here's what I bought..

I also purchased the Candy Mountain which is missing from this collection, simply because I couldn't wait to have a Lush bath in our hotel last weekend.

I've decided to do a small Lush series on my blog, whereby once a week I review a different bath bomb/melt, videos n' all.. (that's if the bomb puts on a display for me)... if not, photos will suffice. I am aware that not all of the ones in the photo are from their Christmas collection, however the majority are, so naturally, I'm going to focus on those first on the run-up to Christmas, the rest will follow..

October Beauty Empties

Another month has passed us by in the blink of an eye...
Judging from my empties drawer, October appears to have been a rather quite one in terms of beauty. I seem to have muddled my way through several packs of face wipes and not a lot else... which, whilst I'm on the subject - I know face wipes are quite controversial in the beauty world, and a lot believe they are bad for your skin, but I honestly don't care. I get tired of listening to beauty gurus stating that certain products are fantastic for your skin, then a few years later saying they are the worst things ever. Its the same with food and healthy eating/drinking - One moment alcohol is the worst thing for you, then in another breath, someone states having a few glasses of wine a week is actually good for you. Whatever... I do what works best for me.

Now I've got that out the way with, here are my October empties...

Whish Body Butter - I received this in a beauty box a few months ago. I smelt it and fell in love, The strange thing is, it's lavender scented, which normally I despise as it has that real 'old lady' smell to it. However this took Lavender to a whole new level, I don't know what the hell was in it but whatever it was it was GOOD! So much so that I deliberately held of using it till I went on holiday. I like to have a new scent on holiday so it reminds me of being away once I return. I applied this every day - it sunk in well, my skin felt nourished and extra soft. It's left me wanting more from this brand. I'm loving their packaging as well - all pastels and rather cute!

Elegant Touch Rapid Dry for Nails (with Vitamin E) - I paint my nails.. a lot. This spray definitely speeds up the drying process. The only thing I find with this (and with other nail sprays as well) - it leaves a light oily residue behind, and if you fail to wipe this off and apply another coat of polish, it doesn't apply very well because the spray has acted as a barrier.. little lesson for you there! But again, another item that I wouldn't hesitate in repurchasing.

Rimmel Lasting Finish 25hr Wear Foundation - I really don't need to comment on this because this crops up several times in my monthly empties posts. It's a staple foundation in my routine and its been with me for a couple of years now (erm, not this same bottle!) - It provides everything I want in a foundation and I can't see myself stopping using this any time soon.

Sanex Anti-Perspirant Deodorant - I don't stick to the same deodorant, ever. I usually just get whatever is on offer. This came on holiday with me, so obviously I was in hot climate and it didn't fail in doing its stuff. Another deodorant I'd be quite happy in buying again.

Baylis & Harding Lavender Calming Body Wash - What was I saying about Lavender?! I received this in a Christmas gift set and finally got round to using it. It definitely wouldn't be my choice - Not only do I dislike Lavender (I don't think I can say that any more times in this post!) but I'm not a fan of shower gels.. I prefer shower creams as I find them much more luxurious on the skin and easier to handle in the shower. This gel came out in big blobs and soon slid off my soufflé - hence why I dislike gels!

Collection Lasting Finish Concealer - Another staple product of mine. I use this to cover up and blemishes, under the eye to brighten and its an all round budget friendly concealer that seems to stay put all day. My only bug-bear with this is that the writing always rubs off - its happened with every one of these I've owned, and I know it happens to others too, so Collection - if you're reading - sort the typing/ink out.. please! I don't like nameless products in my make-up bag!

Agave Healing Hair Oil -  This little glass beauty came on holiday with me - I love hair oils as opposed to creams, I find them more nourishing for the hair and more manageable once applied. I can't give true comments on this though as this is only 4ml worth. I do know that it helped tame my split ends up and made my hair feel extra soft in the heat.

Skin & Co Sicilian Light Serum - Another beauty subscription item - Again, similar to above, I can't comment too much because this was only 5ml's worth, and also, if I'm being honest, I finished using this a few weeks ago so I honestly can't remember what I thought of it.. whoops! It obviously didn't blow me away though!

Johnsons Baby Wipes - Sorry if you spot any marks on the packed in the photo - they are foundation marks from my hands after applying in a morning - because that's exactly what I use these for - Wiping my hands.

Nivea Gentle Facial Cleansing Wipes (x2) - Similar to the deodorant, I grab whatever face wipes are on offer. I think that they are getting ridiculously overpriced now, there average pack being over £3. Luckily though there always seems to be several brands on offer... I never have a problem with Nivea - the size of the face wipe is good, the amount of 'substance' on the face wipe is sufficient enough and (when on offer) they're well priced. They take the first layer of my make-up off well. I can't complain.

Witch Cleaning & Toning Wipes - Perfect size and substance on wipe - My only bug bear with these are that (due to their ingredients) you cannot use them round the eye area, so when I'm feeling extra lazy/tired/zombie-fied ready-to-pass-out-in-bed, these make taking my make-up off just that little more longer. We all know Witch are meant to be pros at clearing those pesky spots up - Luckily my skin hasn't been that bad lately, so I can't honestly comment on this...

October's Birchbox - 'Work It!'

Can I just start by saying I was majorly impressed with this box. I don't know if it was the whole pink theme, or the cute fabric zip bag which they don't usually do, or even the cute pen, whatever it was, it has scored top marks in my book.

This month's theme is highlighting breast cancer awareness, and has joined up with CoppaFeel which emphasizes how important it is to 'coppa feel' of your breasts, checking for any abnormalities. I don't think us girlies check as much as we should.. so before I go on any further.. coppa feel please!

Firstly.. the cute fabric canvas style zip bag. Honestly - why can't all months be like this, and replace those pesky drawstring bags that really struggle to find a use for! I actually think I'm gonna start using this to throw in my handbag for work as I'm always carrying make-up items around with me, but never seem to have a suitable size cosmetics bag. I'm counting this as a second lifestyle item in this months box, even though it's not listed down as one!

Pixi Shea Butter Lip Balm - 'Ripe Raspberry' (Full Size Product) - £8
I'm a daily user of lip balm because (for some unknown reason) I get really sore lips if I have nothing on them (all year round). If I have no lip balm on, I have to put lipstick on, simply to ease my lips. This one smells delish, the packaging is cute and it is apparently a buildable colour, which is always handy.

Cindy Crawford Glowing Serum (Full size Product £30.95)
This is a radiance enhancing anti - ageing serum that is applied before moisturizer. This is a fairly expensive serum so I'm intrigued of the results, although being in my late twenties, I probably wont see a benefit from the anti-ageing factor!

Balance Me Cleanse & Smooth Face Balm (Full Size - £20)
This is a natural nourishing cleanser with exfoliating oatmeal powder.. Intriguing! I can't wait to try this tonight! I really want to find a good daily facial cleanser that becomes a cult product in my routine for many years..

KMS Hair Play Dry Wax (Full size - £15)
A spray that adds second day texture to the hair with a matte finish. It smells good but I'm not massive on hair products so I may pass this onto my boyfriend (before giving it a bash myself, of course!).

The Cool Fix Gel Lotion (Full size - £11)
This lotions targets ingrown hairs, razor bumps/burns and redness. It smells nice and fresh.. lets see if it works!

Lifestyle Choice - Birchbox Lipstick Pen (£2.50)
I've had one lipstick pen before in red and it was encrusted with red diamantes, and I loved it! Unfortunately I lost it so this has just replaced that hole! I love stationary, and there's nothing cuter than writing with pink pens... lipstick ones at that!

I'm going to get full use out of pretty much all of these products (except the hair wax spray). Really impressed.. and Birchbox, if you're reading.... please replace those drawstring bags with these!

September's Birchbox - 'Happy Days'

Agave healing oil treatment (from £16)
A lightweight oil to smooth hair, build resiliency and boost shine and colour.
I'm not really a hair person but I'm rather partial to a good hair oil. My hair is completely ruined from all the dye and is in really bad condition so any treatments are a blessing for me!

Birchbox Happy Days photo clip. Although I like this addition to the lifestyle side of things, I really don't think I'll get any use out of this. I have a few of these photo clips which are much cuter (sorry Birchbox!) and I don't use those either. Maybe if we were allowed to personalize our desk at work I'd get some use out of these, but unfortunately we have to hot desk so its a no-go.

Skin & Co - Sicilian light serum (£29)
Light serum which sinks in fast, evens the complexion and brightens, softens and tightens skin.
I'm not a huge skincare fanatic so this didn't overly excite me but I'll definitely get some use out of it. I'm going away soon so I think I'll take it with me.

ModelCo - Lip Lacquer in 'Viva' - £15
I'm not a huge fan of lipglosses. I find them an irritating sticky mess, so much prefer to either stick to lipbalm or lipstick. However I do like the colour of this, its rather misleading and is no way near as colourful on the lips as it is in the tube, which I suppose is a good thing. It gives a nice natural sheer tint to the lips. It'll be nice to pop in my handbag just so I know 'its there'.

 

 

 

Urban Fruit - Mango - £13.20 (for 6 packs).

I've tried these before but in different flavours. They're a good healthy alternative snack, although I can't say I was too keen on this flavor, which is sad because I absolutely love fresh mango.

 

Benefit - It's potent! Eye cream (Full size - £25.50)

Who doesn't love to receive a benefit product? It's nice to slowly add them to my collection because I can honestly say I don't usually purchase benefit items otherwise because I think they're all way overpriced.

 

Korres citrus showergel - £8

I've tried a Korres showergel in the past and remember liking it. I'm not a huge lover of the citrus flavor, however it does smell really fresh and I do know this will probably come on holiday with me.

 



Overall (although it may not seem like it!) I was pretty impressed with this months box. It has a good selection of beauty products and I was also impressed with the lifestyle choices this month too. Although I probably wont use the photo clip I still thought it was a nice extra.

August's Birchbox - 'Away We Go'

This month's Birchbox is based on the thing I love to do best - travelling! It includes some of their travel essentials, including a lifestyle item - Chapter 1 of 'The Proposal' by Tasmina Perry (which can I just say, I've read and it sounds pretty good - its made me want to get the full book now!).

First of all, lets quickly comment on the packaging.. usually all products come in the famous drawstring bag, which, whilst I'm on the topic - has anyone actually found a use for these yet? I find them to be one of the most un-useful things ever.. the best thing I've found to use it for is storing my dirty underwear in when I'm travelling (sorry for TMI!). They're piling up in my cupboard and I really don't know why I insist on keeping them!

Instead the drawstring bag was replaced with a plastic zip-lock bag which I may actually use for my next plane journey as I believe its within the correct measurements for my carry on liquids.

Lets take a closer look...

Supergloop CC Cream (x2) - Full size £32

This is very similar to a BB cream but instead this colour corrects your skin - it adapts to any redness or discolourations. CC creams claim to be lighter on the skin than BB creams, with a more air-whipped finish.
The Supergloop is pretty natural for me and doesn't cover my imperfections up as much as I would like. Maybe on good skin days this would be good but because I've gotten so used to full coverage foundation, I don't like any other now, and feel naked when using tinted stuff. I'll probably bring this to hotter climates with me when I try not to use as much make up.

Number 4 Super Comb Prep & Protect - Full size £20

This is a leave-in conditioning spray that claims to detangle and protect against heat and sun damage. As I've previously mentioned, I'm a pain for using hair products.. I use the bare minimum, simply cos I either forget or I'm too lazy to incorporate them into my routine. I'm really not a hair person! However I will bring this on holiday with me because I know how tangled your hair can get when on the beach/in the pool etc.

Wild About Beauty Crème Eyeshadow - £13

This claims to be a long-lasting, satin finish shadow from Louise Redknapp's range. I received a really nice medium brown tone in the shade 04 ('Matilda'). I love the compact it comes in, even with its own little mirror. I do have so much eyeshadow though so I may pass this on.

Vasanti Brighten Up! Exfoliating Cleanser - Full size £26

I've yet to try this but I do like using exfoliaters on my skin a few times a week to get rid of any grime that normal products struggle to remove. I love how exfoliaters leave your skin feeling baby soft too, and I'm sure this will do the same!

Nude Progenius Omega Treatment Oil - Full size £58

This is an oil that is rich in omegas 3, 6, 7 and 9 (who knows?!) and claims to hydrate and smooth your skin.
I've just finished something very similar to this that had a tightening effect on my face - I still can't decide if I enjoyed using it or not!

Overall, a nice varied box ready for those summer holidays you may have coming up!
